The didactic portion of this workshop will introduce participants to the basic principles of the art therapy profession.  Participants will learn about clinical populations that benefit from art therapy and the settings in which art therapy takes place. Participants will also learn about how art therapy is conducted and the various ways that these therapeutic techniques benefit those who engage in them. Differences between art therapy and art education will also be explored. Several experiential exercises throughout the day will increase workshop participants’ understanding of the client’s experience of art therapy. This workshop aims to instill participants with a basic knowledge of what art therapy is and how it is used across settings. Participants will also gain familiarity with some practical exercises for use with clients in mental health treatment settings. Workshop materials will be provided.
